Walk the Leschenault Inlet foreshore from East Bunbury and you reach something unusual: an isolated southern stand of white mangroves, crossed on a timber boardwalk. Dogs are welcome on the loop, on a lead.
Lead rules
Keep your dog on a lead for the whole of the inlet walk. The City of Bunbury looks after the foreshore and sets the exercise areas around town, so leave off-lead play for a signed dog area.
The walk
Known locally as the Leschenault Inlet Walk, the route loops around the inlet between Bunbury and East Bunbury. Good starting points are Mangrove Cove or Queens Gardens off Austral Parade.
Most of it is sealed path, with timber boardwalk through the mangroves. Out on the calm inlet water, look for migratory waterbirds.
Max: The boardwalk is shared space. Shorten the lead and let other walkers pass.
Make a day of it
Finish with coffee at The Happy Wife in East Bunbury, or head towards the bay for Dôme Café at Koombana Bay.
The sealed surface suits older dogs and prams alike. Bring water for the dog, and go early on hot days.
