Royal Park to Tailrace Park Walk

This riverside walk runs along the Tamar from Royal Park in Launceston to Tailrace Park in Trevallyn, just across the water from Invermay. The City of Launceston manages it, and dogs stay on lead.

Lead rules

Dogs must be on lead along the route. Cyclists and runners share the path, so keep dogs close.

The walk

The path mixes gravel, sealed asphalt and boardwalk, and is mostly flat. Expect river views, wetlands and green reserves along the way.

Drinking taps are at both ends, and bins are spaced along the path. Shade is patchy, with open stretches across the river flats.

Park at Royal Park, including the car park on Home Point Parade, or at Tailrace Park.

Pepsi: The taps are only at the ends, so a bottle and a bowl make the middle stretch easier.

Make a day of it

In Invermay, Boathouse Coffee and Blue Social Eatery are both close for a stop.

When to go

The flat surface is easy on older joints. On warm days, go early, since the river flats get full sun.
