Launnie Heights

Launnie Heights is a cafe and bar set inside the Tamar Yacht Club building at 7 Park Street, Launceston, with broad views over the Tamar River from its waterfront deck. It does all-day breakfast, brunch, lunch and coffee, and the outdoor deck is dog-friendly, which makes it one of the more scenic places in the city to eat with a dog beside you.

Dogs are welcome on the outdoor deck, which is also the spot to pick for the river views, so there is no trade-off between the best seat and bringing the dog. The interior is set aside for regular dining. The kitchen has a distinctly Indian-inflected menu alongside the brunch staples: shakshuka and hummus bowls, paneer wraps, tikka and spicy chicken bowls, and the laddu slice that regulars single out. Chai gets its share of praise too. A fine-weather table on the deck with boats coming and going off the marina is the highlight.

Getting there and parking

The yacht club sits on the water at 7 Park Street, right beside Royal Park and an easy walk from the Launceston city centre. Parking is available around Park Street and the surrounding riverside precinct, with accessible access close to the clubhouse entrance. The Seaport boardwalk runs straight past the building, so it is a natural stop on a longer waterfront walk.

Close by with the dogs

Royal Park and Kings Park next door allow dogs on lead along the riverbank paths, and the boardwalk carries on toward the Seaport precinct and Cataract Gorge walks. For off lead time, Waterfront Dog Park and the fenced area at Hoblers Bridge Reserve are a short drive across the river.
