Cudgen Creek Estuary Walk

Clear tidal water, mangroves and the odd osprey overhead make the Cudgen Creek Estuary Walk one of the prettier creekside walks on the Tweed Coast. The route sits in Kingscliff, just north of Casuarina, and Tweed Shire Council looks after it.

Leads and the off-lead stretch

Keep your dog on a lead along the shared paths and through the parks beside the creek, including Faulks Park.

The exception is the signed off-lead stretch of beach at South Kingscliff, which runs down to the Cudgen Creek rock wall. Council enforces leads firmly around the creek and foreshore because shorebirds such as the beach stone-curlew nest nearby.

Max: Clip the lead back on the moment you leave the off-lead sand. The birds along this creek are the reason the rules are strict.

The walk

Most of it follows sealed concrete path and boardwalk beside the estuary. You can drop down onto the sand or out to the rock wall if you want a longer loop.

Toilets, water refill points and free parking sit near the main access points along the creek and coast.

Make a day of it

Finish with a coffee at Shiny Brew in Kingscliff, or head south to She Oak Espresso in Casuarina.

The flat, sealed paths suit older dogs and prams. Save the sand and the rock wall for dogs keen on a longer, looser outing.
