Jarrah Walk Trail, Crooked Brook Forest

A gentle bush loop under tall jarrah, the Jarrah Walk Trail follows a winter brook past a quiet billabong in Crooked Brook Forest. It sits beside the Ferguson Valley, about 25 kilometres from Bunbury, and dogs are welcome on a lead at all times.

Why the lead stays on

The forest is state forest managed by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, looked after with the Shire of Dardanup and the local community. Western grey kangaroos live here in good numbers, which is why leads are compulsory.

Max: Kangaroos often graze near the track. Keep the lead short and your dog close when you spot them.

The walk

It is rated an easy walk on a hardened surface, and the stretch near the start and the billabong suits wheelchairs and prams. The jarrah and marri canopy gives shade almost the whole way.

Look out for black cockatoos, and wildflowers in spring.

Getting started

Park for free at the main Crooked Brook Forest car park, where you will also find toilets and picnic tables. There are no taps or dog bowls on the trail and few bins, so carry water and take your bags home.

Winter and spring are the prettiest, when the brook runs and the flowers are out. The easy grade suits young, older and slow dogs alike.
