Bandicoot Reserve

Bandicoot Reserve on Berrigan Drive, once known as Berrigan Reserve, is a patch of actively managed bushland in Jandakot. Dogs are allowed on lead, which matters here because the reserve exists to protect native wildlife.

The walk

Short, informal sand and earth tracks wind through Banksia woodland and dense scrub. It is a quiet bush wander rather than a set loop.

The name is a clue. The scrub is habitat for quenda, the local bandicoot, so this is a place for a calm, sniffy walk.

Lead rules

The City of Cockburn manages the reserve as a conservation area. Keep your dog on a physical lead and under control at all times, stay on the tracks, and follow any signs at the entrances.

Max: Quenda forage in this scrub. Keep the lead short so your dog cannot go digging after them.

For an off-lead run, Yarra Vista Park Fenced Dog Park is close by, and Aviator's Cafe is handy for a coffee.

Sand gets hot in summer, so go early and bring water for the dog.
