Wattle Reserve

Wattle Reserve sits on the Esplanade at Hove, right on the Somerton Park border, with the beach just across the road and views over Gulf St Vincent. It is a council reserve where dogs can come off lead, which makes it a handy stop before or after a beach walk.

Leads and the off-lead rules

Under City of Holdfast Bay rules, dogs can be off lead in the reserve as long as they are under effective control. Put the lead back on near the playground.

The beach and foreshore across the road have their own restrictions during daylight saving, so check the signs before you head onto the sand.

What you'll find

Concrete and paved paths link the lawns, picnic spots and courts to the coastal path. The flat turf gives room to stretch out without feeling crowded.

There is drinking water on site, plus dog bag dispensers and bins. Shade comes from trees and built shelters, and there is street parking along the Esplanade.

When to go

Outside daylight saving you can pair the reserve with the beach more freely. With a playground, tennis half-court, basketball and barbecues, it suits families who want the dog along for the outing.
