Hawley Esplanade Foreshore Walk

The shared path along Hawley Esplanade traces the Hawley Beach foreshore, past seats, picnic tables and native coastal planting. Dogs walk the path on lead, and Latrobe Council declares parts of the beach itself for off-lead exercise.

Leads and the beach

Keep your dog leashed on the path and in the adjoining reserves. The off-lead sections of Hawley Beach are set by Latrobe Council and can change with the time of day and season, so read the signs at each beach access before unclipping.

Dogs are not allowed in Hawley Nature Reserve at all.

The walk

Recent upgrades gave the esplanade continuous concrete and raised walkway sections. Further along, the track turns to sand, dirt and rock around the headland.

Dog waste bins sit at points along the foreshore, including near the shop on the esplanade. Parking is in council car parks and roadside bays at the beach accesses.

Make a day of it

Carry on to Shearwater Park for another short loop, or stop at Rocky Gardens Cafe.

The paved section is flat and suits older dogs, and summer mornings are the gentlest time for paws on sand.
