Karlkurla Bushland Park

Karlkurla Bushland Park covers more than 200 hectares of Goldfields bush in Hannans, Kalgoorlie, and its flat sealed paths make it an easy bush walk. Dogs are welcome on a lead.

Lead rules

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder requires dogs to be on a lead at all times here. It is not an off-lead park, and dogs are not allowed inside the nature playground.

The walk

The paths are sealed and mostly flat, shared with runners and cyclists, and wind through salmon gums, sandalwood and melaleuca on red dirt. Interpretive signs lead up to the Katunga Lookout and its views over the city.

Kangaroos are about in the early mornings and evenings, along with birds and lizards.

Water and shade

The native canopy gives some shade, but parts of the dual-use paths are open. Dog water on the trails is limited, so carry plenty, and use the bins by the entrances, car park and playground.

Max: Kangaroos come out at dawn and dusk. Keep the lead short so a chase never starts.

Make a day of it

Proper Gander Espresso and Oil & Spice Cafe and Restaurant in Kalgoorlie are good stops after the walk.

When to go

In the warmer months, go early or late, as the open stretches catch the sun. The smooth, flat surface suits older dogs, and Saturday mornings bring the parkrun crowd.
