Grotto Walk

Sandstone cliffs, deep rock overhangs and views over the Shoalhaven River make the Grotto Walk in North Nowra a short but rugged outing. Dogs are allowed on a lead.

Lead rules

Shoalhaven City Council requires dogs to stay leashed here. The track is steep in places, so you will want the lead short anyway.

The walk

The ground is natural bush, with dirt paths, uneven rock and a run of timber and stone steps. Handlers need good footing on the steeper parts, and agile dogs will enjoy the scramble.

The bush canopy along the riverbank gives good shade on warm days. There are no water stations and few bins on the track, so carry water and pack out waste.

Max: The rock and stone steps are uneven. Take them at your dog's pace, not ahead of it.

Getting started

Park on the street near the lookout and track entrances on Yurunga Drive.

Make a day of it

Let your dog stretch its legs off lead at Bomo Dog Bowl Fenced Dog Park, then refuel at Espresso Boy Doughnuts Bomaderry.

Best for fit, sure-footed dogs. Older dogs and big pullers will find the steps hard.
