Griffith Oval

Griffith Oval is a stop on the leafy Manuka-Griffith walk in Canberra's inner south, where open sports fields sit under mature poplars and exotic trees. When no formal sport is on, dogs can run off lead on the oval.

Leads and the oval

ACT Government rules allow off-lead exercise on the sportsground only while no formal sporting event is under way. On the surrounding footpaths and cycle paths, and within 10 metres of them, dogs must be on a lead.

The walk

The wider circuit is about 3 kilometres, flat and easy, mixing dirt track, open grass and wide concrete footpaths. Poplars line a creekside stormwater drain nearby, and the tree cover keeps it cooler in summer and colourful in autumn.

Bins are at the Manuka shops, Griffith Park and Flinders Park. Carry water for the dog.

Getting started

Free parking is along Captain Cook Crescent and Flinders Way, with paid parking around the Manuka shops. Public toilets are at the rear of Manuka Terrace, entered from Flinders Way.

Coffee at Brew & Crust in Griffith or a drink at the Kingston Hotel rounds off the walk.

Autumn is the pick of the seasons here. It suits social dogs, since you are likely to meet plenty of others along the way.
