Kingston Hotel

The Kingston Hotel, known locally as the Kingo, is one of Canberra's oldest pubs and one of its most popular with families and dogs alike. The drawcard is the beer garden: a large, green outdoor area with two bars and a sprawling dining space that easily absorbs a Saturday afternoon crowd.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor beer garden and dining areas, listed among the venue's pet friendly amenities. Keep dogs leashed while you are out there, the space gets busy on weekends and there is a lot of foot traffic between the bars, the grill and the salad bar. Water bowls are typically out in the garden area; ask staff if you cannot spot one.

Good to know. The Kingston Hotel is known for its cook your own grill, a help yourself salad bar, solid steaks and a big wine list, plus a drive through bottle shop if you are stocking up on the way home. It is one of Canberra's original pubs and still runs as a genuine local, not a polished newcomer.

Getting there and parking. The hotel sits on the corner of Canberra Avenue and Giles Street in Griffith. Street parking is available along Giles Street and the surrounding residential streets.

Nearby with the dogs. Telopea Park is a short drive away and good for an on leash walk, and the Lake Burley Griffin foreshore has extensive walking paths if you want to make more of the outing.
