Goomboora Park

Goomboora Park on Shale Street runs along Freshwater Creek, and that creek is the draw: a natural spot for dogs to paddle between open grass and shady bush tracks. Part of the park is signed off-leash.

Leads and the off-lead area

Cairns Regional Council designates the area north of the central internal access road as off-leash. Dogs stay on lead in the other sections and are kept out of the playground.

The walk

A wide paved shared path runs through the park as part of the local cycle network, with smaller bush trails branching off under big mature trees.

There is drinking water on site, but carry a bowl for the tracks. General bins are provided.

Pepsi: The creek is the reward. Walk the paved path first, then head north into the off-lead side for a paddle.

On-site parking and the shady spots fill quickly on weekends, so a weekday or early start is easier.
