Geelong Waterfront and Eastern Beach Promenade

Corio Bay on one side, art deco pavilions and the old shark-proof sea baths on the other: the Geelong Waterfront and Eastern Beach Promenade is the city's showpiece stroll. It runs along central Geelong's eastern edge, and dogs walk it on a lead.

Leads on the promenade

The City of Greater Geelong treats the whole waterfront precinct and promenade as a busy shared space, so leads stay on at all times.

For a run, nearby Eastern Park lets dogs off lead on its sports ovals when no organised sport is on.

Underfoot and along the way

Concrete and bitumen paths along the broader waterfront give way to a heritage timber boardwalk and a curved timber deck over the water at Eastern Beach. You pass the painted Bay Walk bollards and the sea bath's diving tower.

Drinking fountains with dog bowls sit along the central waterfront and near the pavilions. Bins are plentiful but dog bag dispensers are not, so carry your own.

Make a day of it

Walk on to the perimeter paths of the Geelong Botanic Gardens, where dogs stay outside the fenced gardens, or stop at Mercy Cafe.

The promenade is exposed to sun and wind, so mornings suit it best. It is a high-traffic path with plenty of cyclists, which makes it good practice for calm, social dogs.
