Foreshore Flow Trail

The Foreshore Flow Trail runs about 19 kilometres down the coast from Rockingham to Secret Harbour, and the Shoalwater stretch has some of its best water views. Dogs can walk the whole sealed path, but only on a lead.

The Shoalwater section

The path is fully sealed and shared with cyclists, so it is smooth going for any dog. Along Arcadia Drive you look straight across the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park and the calm turquoise water of the sounds.

Parking is free at points along Arcadia Drive, including Shoalwater Foreshore Reserve and near Mersey Point.

Leads and the beach

The City of Rockingham requires dogs on lead on the trail. Some beach strips beside it have their own restrictions, so read the signs before heading onto the sand.

For a run, the signed off-leash area on Shoalwater Beach sits between the McLarty Road prolongation and the northern edge of the Mersey Point car park.

Water and shade

Bins are spaced along the foreshore reserves and picnic areas, and trees and shelters shade the park pockets. Much of the coastal path is exposed, so carry water and a bowl.

Pepsi: Pack a towel. The off-leash strip at Shoalwater is right beside the path and hard to walk past.

Make a day of it

Pengo's Cafe in Shoalwater is handy for a coffee, or finish with some secure play at Rockingham Fenced Dog Park.

Go early or late in summer, when the exposed stretches are cooler. The flat sealed surface suits older dogs and prams alike.
