Pet policy
On lead at all times in the park - there is no off-lead area for now (City of Canning).
Ferndale Park sits in Ferndale, next door to Parkwood, with sports fields, playgrounds and mature trees close to the Canning River wetlands. It is a shady, spacious on-lead walk for a regular neighbourhood outing.
Lead rules
The City of Canning requires dogs on a lead at all times in the park. The council has consulted locals on a fenced off-lead area, but for now the lead stays on.
The walk
Concrete and asphalt shared paths run through the park, with grassed tracks around the perimeter. Mature trees give good shade, and the grounds are kept clean with bins on site.
Getting started
Park near Blancoa Road or Dampiera Way. Water can be patchy, so carry a bottle and bowl.
Make a day of it
Extend the outing along the river on the Canning River Nature Walk, or stop for coffee at Espressoul Coffee & Kitchen.
When to go
Mornings and evenings are the most comfortable times to go. The shade makes it a better summer option than most open suburban reserves.
