Federation Trail

Flat, sealed and easy, the Federation Trail passes through Williams Landing on its way between Werribee and Brooklyn. It is a steady on-lead walk that can be as short or as long as you like.

Lead rules

Wyndham City Council looks after the Williams Landing section. Dogs must be on a lead along the trail and in surrounding reserves, and can only run free inside signed off-leash parks.

The walk

The path is smooth asphalt and concrete, shared with bikes, and rated easy. Along this stretch it runs through open parkland and past community gardens, following old sewer and rail reserves.

Because it links suburbs across Wyndham, Hobsons Bay and Brimbank, you pick your own turnaround point.

Water and shade

Shade is thin on this section, so warm days get hot quickly. Dog water stations are sparse on the path itself, so bring a bottle and bags.

Street parking is easy to find where the trail crosses local roads in Williams Landing.

Finish with an off-lead run at the Williams Landing Reserve Fenced Dog Park, or try Lawrie Emmins Reserve Dog Off Leash Area in Laverton North.

Early mornings suit it best in summer. The even surface makes it a good choice for older dogs and for owners who like to jog with a dog on lead.
