Henley Park

Henley Park in Enfield wraps a walking track around big sports fields, and its eastern end has a signed off-leash area. That mix of lead walking and free running draws plenty of local dogs.

Leads and the off-lead area

Burwood Council allows dogs on a lead throughout the park. The off-leash area is at the eastern end, between Short and Mitchell Streets, and is open at all hours except during organised sport.

The walk

A 1.5 km walking track circles the park on a pebble and paved surface. It passes sports fields, playgrounds and fitness stations, all wrapped in large established trees.

Water and shade

Council supplies bag dispensers and bins. Covered seats, shelters and mature trees give shade along the track, and a bottle of water for the dog is worth packing.

Free off-street parking sits next to the park and the Enfield Aquatic Centre.

Pair it with

Next door, Grant Park Fenced Dog Park has fenced areas split for large and small dogs. Maritta Garden Cafe in Burwood Heights is nearby for a coffee.

Max: The off-leash end closes to dogs when organised sport is on. Keep the lead on until the fields are clear.

When to go

The open fields attract a crowd of local dogs, so it suits social dogs best. Plan around sports fixtures if you want the off-leash end.
