Kamilaroi Walking Track

Linking Oxley Scenic Lookout, the Tamworth Botanic Gardens and Flagstaff Mountain, the Kamilaroi Walking Track climbs through eucalypt bushland in East and North Tamworth to sweeping views over the Peel Valley and the city. Dogs are welcome, on a lead the whole way.

Lead rules

Tamworth Regional Council requires dogs to be on a lead at all times on the track. Some sections are shared with mountain bike trails, another reason to keep it short.

The walk

This is a proper bush walk on uneven natural earth, with elevated sections and plenty of native birdlife. It rewards fit dogs more than older ones.

Water and parking

Water refill points sit near entry points such as the Botanic Gardens and Oxley Lookout, but carry your own for longer stretches. Bins and picnic facilities are mostly at the lookouts.

Park at Oxley Scenic Lookout or at a trailhead such as Endeavour Drive.

Max: Bikes share parts of this track. Keep your dog on your side of the path and listen for riders.

Make a day of it

Back in town, George Street Dog Park in West Tamworth is the spot for a run, and Le Pruneau does coffee.

Go early in the day, when the bush is cool and the valley views are clear.
