Durack Lakes

The Durack Lakes loop winds around a chain of urban lakes in Durack, Palmerston, on a smooth paved path. Waterbirds, shady lawns and flat going make it an easy on-lead walk for any dog.

Lead rules

The City of Palmerston manages the parklands, and dogs must stay on a lead and under effective control. Keep them out of the lakes and waterways too.

The walk

The loop is flat, paved and well maintained, so it is gentle on paws and easy with a pram or a reactive dog. Along the way you pass playgrounds, exercise equipment and sheltered picnic tables.

Mature trees shade parts of the circuit, but open sections catch the full tropical sun.

Water and bins

Bubblers are few on the loop, so carry water and a bowl. Bins sit at regular intervals, and street parking is easy beside the parklands.

Max: The lakes stay off limits for dogs, however hot it gets. Wildlife shares Top End water, so admire it from the path.

When to go

Early morning or evening, when the heat eases and the birds are busiest. The flat surface suits older dogs well.
