Deodar Park

Deodar Park, on the corner of Burleigh Street and Omao Avenue in Burleigh Waters, is less a trail than a big open field where dogs can run off lead. Think neighbourhood leg-stretch and a game of fetch.

Where the lead comes off

The City of Gold Coast allows off-leash exercise in the large designated grassed area, with dogs under effective control. Outside it, dogs stay on lead, and they are banned from the children's playground.

The park

Concrete paths run beside the playground, and the rest is open turf. A multi-slide playground, a basketball half-court and a fenced BMX pump track share the space, so families and dogs mix here.

Tree lines and sheltered seats give shade, and water and bins are on hand. Don't count on a toilet on site.

Max: The playground and pump track draw plenty of kids. Keep recall sharp on that side of the field and clip on before you pass the play area.

For a lakeside walk, Burleigh Lake Park is close by, and Espressions cafe handles the coffee.

Free street parking is near the Omao Avenue entrance. It is a local social spot where neighbourhood dogs meet up, so it suits friendly dogs that enjoy company.
