Darook Park

Darook Park looks over the calm, boat-dotted waters of Gunnamatta Bay, backed by native bush, away from the busy Cronulla surf strip. The one thing to know before you go is that dogs can use the park, but not the beach below it.

Lead rules

Sutherland Shire Council allows dogs on lead on the paths and grassy areas of the park. They are not permitted on the sand, in the water or in the swimming area, and the park is not an off-lead area.

Max: The calm water is tempting. Keep the lead short near the beach access so nobody ends up on the sand.

The walk

It is a short stroll on a mix of grass and constructed paths, with trees giving shade in patches on the upper reserve.

There are toilets beside the park, bubblers near the amenities block, and bins by the parking and beach access. Bring a bowl for the dog.

Getting there

Street parking runs along Darook Park Road, but spaces are limited and fill on warm weekends with families heading to the beach.

Make a day of it

Head into Cronulla for coffee at Blackwood Cronulla or Ham Harry & Mario.

Weekday mornings are the easy time to park. It suits a gentle on-lead wander with a view, not a run.
