Cook Park

Cook Park runs along the Botany Bay shore at Ramsgate, and the deal is simple: dogs walk the foreshore path on a lead, and the sand is off limits. Bayside Council keeps the path, promenade and lawns on lead at all times.

Dogs are not allowed on the beach, the sand or the bathing areas beside the park, so keep them on the path side of the promenade.

The walk

It is a flat, paved walkway, which makes it easy going for older dogs, prams and runners alike. The views stretch across the bay towards Kurnell, with grassy foreshore on one side and a few historical plaques along the way.

Bins sit along the promenade and through the park, and the council expects every bag to go in one. Bubblers are spread out, so carry a bowl rather than counting on one being close.

Shade and parking

There is little shade over the main path. On a hot day, walk early or late and keep an eye on the pavement temperature.

Free street parking runs along The Grand Parade beside the park.

Make a day of it

For an off-lead run, the fenced area at Bona Park Off-leash Dog Area is the local answer. Coffee afterwards can be at Roca Cafe Pink.

Best for a steady on-lead stroll with a sea breeze, especially for dogs who are happier on smooth, level ground.
