Packer Park

Packer Park on Leila Road in Carnegie, on the Ormond border, mixes sealed paths, sports ovals and a wetland with ponds. Two signed off-leash areas mean it works for both a lead walk and a proper run.

Leads and the off-lead area

Glen Eira City Council allows dogs off leash north of the sportsground and east of the creek. Everywhere else, and within 20 metres of barbecues, playgrounds and active sports facilities, dogs go on lead.

Dogs are not allowed inside the fenced playgrounds, the velodrome or the bowling and bocce green.

Around the park

The paths are sealed and built for all abilities, so they stay walkable in wet weather. You pass open ovals, the cycling velodrome, the wetland ponds and a big adventure playground.

Mature trees and picnic shelters give plenty of shade, and bins sit along the paths. There are drinking taps around the park and street parking on the edges.

Make a day of it

The Ormond Provedore Cafe is close by for a coffee afterwards.

When to go

With a busy playground and velodrome in the middle, the northern and eastern zones are the place to let a dog loose. The shaded, sealed paths suit a slower walk with an older dog.
