Callala Beach Walk

Soft white sand, clear turquoise water and views across Jervis Bay make the shoreline at Callala Beach a lovely walk. It is not a formally named track, though, and one section of the beach is off limits to dogs.

Where the lead rules bite

Shoalhaven City Council allows dogs on lead in general public reserves and on the permitted beach zones. Dogs are prohibited on Callala Beach between Parkes Crescent and Centre Street, and in marked wildlife and swimming zones.

There is no off-lead area on this strip. The council's off-lead spaces are elsewhere in the Shoalhaven.

Max: Read the signs at each beach access. When you reach the no-dogs stretch, move up onto the reserve or turn back.

Underfoot

Expect a mix of soft sand, natural dirt tracks and grass reserve, with short paved or boardwalk paths near the residential access points. Native coastal trees back much of the shore.

The Callala Bay Foreshore Walk is next door if you want a second stretch, and Vagabunda Collaborative is handy for a coffee.

When to go

Mornings are cooler on the sand for paws. Soft sand is hard work for older dogs, so stick to the grass and paths if yours tires easily.
