Breakwater Park

Breakwater Park sits on Waterloo Esplanade by the mouth of Wynnum Creek, where a stone breakwall reaches out into Moreton Bay. The sea breeze and open water views make it one of the nicer short bayside strolls in Wynnum.

Lead rules

Brisbane City Council allows dogs on lead in the park, on the connecting walkways and along the breakwall. They are not allowed on the swimming beach just north of the jetty.

The walk

Paths are paved concrete and accessible, and they link into the continuous walkways along the Esplanade towards the central Wynnum foreshore. Along the way you watch the boats working around the breakwater.

There are covered barbecue areas with picnic tables and bins, but the breakwall itself is fully exposed to sun and wind. Toilets right at the park are scarce, so you may need to walk along the Esplanade.

Pepsi: There is not much dog water here. Bring a bottle and a bowl for the walk out along the wall.

Make a day of it

Parking is close to the park and boat ramp. Afterwards, Second Home Coffee or Edith Street Espresso round it off.

Go early or late on sunny days, as the breakwall has no cover at all.
