Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk

Sandstone cliffs, ocean pools and big Pacific views make the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk one of Sydney's best known. Dogs are welcome on a lead on the path and clifftop parks, but not on any of the beaches.

Lead rules

Waverley Council looks after the northern half through Bondi, Tamarama and Bronte, and Randwick City Council the southern half through Clovelly and Coogee. Dogs must be on a short lead the whole way.

Dogs are banned from every beach, rock pool and rock platform along the route, and from the playgrounds and sports fields beside it.

The walk

Expect paved paths, sandstone and timber boardwalks, plenty of stairs and some uneven rock close to the cliff edges.

Drinking fountains, some with low bowls or taps for dogs, sit at the main beach hubs and parks, with bins and seating along the way.

Max: Keep the lead short on the stairs and near the cliff edges, and steer well clear of the sand.

Grab a coffee at Bellagio Cafe in Waverley, or at Bunny Slope Cafe in Randwick.

Early morning is the best time for a dog, before the sun warms the stone. It suits confident dogs that are happy on stairs.
