Bellbird Dell Reserve

Bellbird Dell Reserve is a 1.4-kilometre strip of bushland, ponds and wetland through Vermont South, with boardwalks and plenty of shade. It is lead-on everywhere, so treat it as a quiet stroll rather than a run.

Lead rules

Whitehorse City Council requires dogs on a lead at all times in the reserve. Dogs must also stay 2.5 metres away from play spaces and the sensitive wetland and creek areas.

The walk

Wide, firm paths near the entrances give way to gravel tracks and timber boardwalks across the wetlands. Frogs and birds provide the soundtrack, and mature canopy trees shade much of the way.

Start at the George Road entrance, which has the gentlest gradients and the best access. Street parking there is limited.

Bins sit near the main entrances and the playground. There are no toilets in the reserve and few taps, so bring water for the dog.

Pair it with

For off-lead time, finish at the Terrara Park Dog Off Leash Area, where the pavilion has the nearest public toilets. Davy Lane Dog Off Leash Area in Forest Hill is another option.

When to go

The deep shade makes this a good warm-weather walk. It suits dogs that walk calmly on a lead and owners who want birdsong rather than a busy oval.
