Beenyup Swamp Circuit

The Beenyup Swamp Circuit is a 2.4 km loop through wetland in Yellagonga Regional Park, near Wanneroo and Woodvale, where flooded gums and paperbarks shelter waterbirds. Dogs stay on lead the whole way.

Lead rules

The regional park is managed by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions with input from local councils, and dogs must be on lead at all times.

The walk

It is rated an easy trail with gentle terrain, and most people finish in under an hour. The surface changes as you go, from limestone and gravel to dirt, paved sections and a wooden boardwalk over the swamp.

Near the start, Perry's Paddock and Perry's Cottage, built in 1860, add a bit of history. Parking is at the trailheads around the park and Perry's Paddock.

Before you set off on the loop

Max: There is no drinking water on the loop and few bins. Carry water for you and the dog, and take your bags home.

Shade is patchy, with the best cover through the swamp and woodland sections.

Make a day of it

After all that time on lead, Edgar Griffiths Dog Park in Wanneroo is fenced for off-lead play, and Dôme Café in Wanneroo is there for coffee.

When to go

Cool mornings suit it best given the patchy shade, and the easy grade makes it a good fit for older dogs.
