Success Hill Reserve

Perched above the Swan River in Bassendean, Success Hill Reserve is a heritage-listed slope of bushland and paths where dogs are welcome on lead for a walk with a view.

Leads on

The Town of Bassendean keeps the whole reserve on lead. It is not a dog exercise area, so there is no off-lead section.

The walk

Bitumen and limestone paths lead down the slope through native bushland, with elevated views over the river. Mature trees shade much of the way.

Historical markers explain the site's long story as a traditional Indigenous meeting place and early settlement, and a natural freshwater spring sits along the way. The reserve links into shared paths if you want a longer river walk.

Getting started

Park in the street on Seventh Avenue, near Success Hill train station. Bins sit around the entry points.

When to go

The shade helps on warm days, but the paths drop down a slope and the walk back is uphill. It suits dogs with some stamina, and a bottle of water for the dog is worth packing.
