Serpentine River Crossing and River Walk

The short version. The Serpentine River Crossing and River Walk is a quiet nature walk off Wilkinson Road in Baldivis, following the river past a small weir with birdlife and easy water access. It is a relaxed, scenic on-leash stroll, and it is worth knowing this is not the nearby Serpentine National Park, which does not allow dogs.

The rules. Keep your dog on-leash and under control through the river corridor to protect the wildlife. There are no bins, so carry your waste out. Dogs can have a paddle at the crossing, but the flow can run fast after rain, so keep a close eye near the water.

The walk. Flat, easy-going dirt and gravel tracks suited to most fitness levels, with limited natural seating along the way. The river looks its best shortly after rain, though the crossing can become submerged when the water level is high, so check conditions before heading down.

Getting there. Access is via Kulija Road and Wilkinson Road, with limited informal parking near the entrance. There is no toilet on site and public transport is very limited, so driving is the practical option.

When to go. Weekday mornings and evenings are the quietest; Sunday afternoons and Friday nights tend to be busiest. Best just after rain for the scenery, but check the water level first if the crossing matters to your route. Good for a calm riverside amble rather than a big off-leash run.
