Outside July, dogs are welcome on specifically designated pet-friendly powered and unpowered sites, and pet-friendly cabins may also be available. Book the pet option directly and ask about the fee, because pet sites cannot be added on at check-in. Standard conditions apply once you're in: dogs stay on a lead at all times within the park, cannot be left unattended at a site or in a cabin, and are kept out of food preparation areas, playgrounds and amenities blocks. One dog per booking is the default, with a second needing management approval.

Bring your own water bowl and bedding, and call the park ahead to lock in a pet site for your dates. Confirm the current pet fee and any July boundary dates at booking, since the exclusion window is set each year around the peak.

The park setup

The grounds are tropical and shaded, with a swimming pool, BBQ areas and a camp kitchen shared by all guests, which is why dogs are kept out of those zones. The mix of sites and cabins suits both one-night stopovers on the way through and longer Top End stays. Winnellie is a working suburb rather than a tourist strip, but the trade-off is location: Tiger Brennan Drive puts the Darwin CBD within an easy run, and the industrial strip around the park covers fuel, supplies and a feed.

Close by with the dogs

For an off-lead stretch, the DogsNT & DODC Showgrounds Area on Tate Place is used for canine training and club activities just around the corner from the park. For a coffee, Besser in Winnellie and Karma Cafe in Parap are both dog-friendly stops on the way into town.
