Tapitallee Lodges is a self-contained rural cottage property at 1240 Illaroo Road, about 12 kilometres west of Nowra and a short drive from Kangaroo Valley. The dog-friendly cottage is Heron's Rest, a two-bedroom, two-bathroom house built on the edge of the property's farm dam, and it is also known as the closest accommodation to the Bundanon Art Museum and Riversdale.
Dogs at the Tapitallee Lodges
Heron's Rest takes dogs inside the cottage, with a limit of two small dogs. Medium dogs in the 11 to 34 kilogram range are accepted, but large breeds are generally not permitted because the cottage sits close to the dam and neighbouring cattle run right up to the fence line. Cats are allowed too, which is rare. Fees are not listed on the booking platforms, so confirm any pet charge with the hosts on 0411 871 611 before you book. House rules are simple: pets stay under control and do not bark continuously, and the tiled floors through the cottage make wet-weather paw cleanup easier than carpet.
If you want a secure outdoor run for your dogs, ask about The Stables, a separate part of the property that includes a fully fenced kennel area.
Worth knowing
Heron's Rest sleeps four across two queen bedrooms, each with an ensuite, and has a full kitchen with dishwasher, laundry, air conditioning and an outdoor BBQ. The standout feature is a 15 metre floating pontoon built out into the dam, with a table, chairs and a fire box. Getting there and parking
From Nowra, follow Illaroo Road west for roughly 12 kilometres; off-street parking is at the cottage door. Kangaroo Valley village is about 15 minutes further via Cambewarra.
Close by with the dogs
For off-lead time, the Bomo Dog Bowl Fenced Dog Park in Bomaderry is the closest fenced option. Cambewarra Tea Room is an easy stop on the drive, and The Big Bell Farm is a pet-friendly alternative if you head into the valley.
