The Big Bell Farm

Tell the farm you are bringing a dog when you book, because it is a working property with livestock and they will want to brief you on keeping your dog clear of the paddocks. Some cabins have fenced verandas, which is worth asking about if you want somewhere safe for the dog to settle.

Max: livestock and loose dogs do not mix. Keep the lead on around the animals, check the cabin yard is secure before any off-lead time, and enjoy the creek on lead instead.

The vibe

Cabins are clean and cosy rather than plush, and the draw is the routine: feed the goats and horses in the morning, wander the property, sit outside with the escarpment in view. It suits a well-controlled dog and owners happy to manage the farm setting rather than expect a resort lawn.

Getting there

The farm sits on Kangaroo Valley Road, a short drive from the village with its cafes and the historic Hampden Bridge. It is roughly two hours from Sydney via the Southern Highlands or the coast through Nowra.
