Seaforth Holiday Units

Seaforth Holiday Units is a quiet, self-contained stay at 6 George Street in the coastal village of Seaforth, about 35 minutes north of Mackay. The beach is roughly 100 metres away, the village goes almost silent after 8pm, and the property is set up for dogs properly rather than grudgingly, with a handful of designated pet-friendly units.

Dogs at Seaforth Holiday Units

Pets are by arrangement only, because the pet-friendly rooms are limited, so request one when you book rather than turning up with a dog and hoping. Pets of any size are accepted, up to two per unit. A $25 pet fee applies and a $50 deposit is held until the room is checked on departure. Dogs stay off the furniture as a condition of the room, and the quiet village setting helps if your dog startles at noise.

The place

Accommodation is self-contained units rather than caravan sites: small studios from $125 a night for two adults, large studios from $130, and one-bedroom apartments from $165 with full kitchens, air conditioning and ensuites. Higher rates apply at Christmas, Easter and in school holidays, and there is free on-site parking, though undercover spots are limited, so ask ahead.

Close by with the dogs

The sparsely populated beach with its off-leash area is the closest run, and a large sporting ground within 200 metres gives you a second option for a proper run. At low tide, the walk out to Redcliff Island leaves from the northern tip of Seaforth Beach along an old military stone road. Note that Cape Hillsborough National Park nearby is a no-dogs zone, so plan around it.

Pepsi: the beach is close enough for a last-thing-of-the-day walk, and the fishing off the rocks is good if you want a lazy day of it.
