Seaview Park - Off Leash Dog Beach

Seaview Park is Bucasia's off-leash dog beach, a wide stretch of sand at the end of Williams Avenue with a grassy park running alongside. Before anything else, know the hours: off-leash time is strictly 5am to 8am and 5pm to 8pm, so time the visit or the dog stays on lead.

The dog setup

The beach itself is the draw: flat, sandy and sheltered, with plenty of hard-packed room at low to mid tide for dogs of any size to run, paddle or swim. It reads as a genuinely relaxed swim spot rather than a surf beach, which suits nervous swimmers and older dogs as much as the confident ones. A walking track runs beside the grassy park, and bins sit on site, so the land half of the visit works as well as the water half.

Worth knowing

Under Mackay Regional Council rules, off-lead access applies only within the signed coastal stretch between Williams Avenue and Symons Avenue, and only inside the dawn and dusk windows; the rest of the day dogs are on lead. Even off lead, dogs need effective voice control, and aggressive behaviour or persistent barking is not tolerated. Carry your own bags, because supply at the beach is not reliable, and bring water since the taps cannot be counted on.

Max: check the boundary signage before unclipping. The off-leash zone covers the stretch between Williams and Symons Avenues, not the whole beach.

Getting there

Seaview Park sits at the end of Williams Avenue, Bucasia, about 20 to 25 minutes north of the Mackay CBD, with free street parking along Williams Avenue. Local buses reach the area, but driving is the practical option. Aim for the edges of the off-leash window, when the sand is quieter and the heat is off.

While you're out there

The Beachfront Bar and Restaurant is an easy walk along the esplanade and welcomes leashed dogs in its outdoor grassed area, and the Bucasia Beachfront Caravan Resort sits right on the sand if you are staying overnight with the dog.
