Kanasta Caravan Park

Kanasta Caravan Park is a family holiday park at 1/9 Sinclair Avenue in Rye, about a five-minute walk from Rye Beach and the pier, with a set of designated pet-friendly cabins and 1950s-styled retro caravans that make the dog part of the trip rather than an afterthought.

Dogs are welcome inside the nominated pet-friendly cabins and retro caravans only, so book one of those specifically rather than assuming any accommodation works. Inside the pet-friendly options, dogs stay off the carpeted areas, the furniture and the beds, so bring a dog bed and a mat to keep them off the built-in surfaces. Around the park, dogs are not permitted in shared spaces: the amenities block, games room, laundry, playground and main communal BBQ area are all out.

The fee is $22 per dog per night, and a portion of every pet fee is donated to Mornington Peninsula Dog Rescue. Confirm any size or number limits when you book, as these can apply, and reduced rates are sometimes offered on longer stays.

The place

The park is a practical, social family setup rather than a secluded retreat, with self-contained cabins up to two bedrooms, a games room, outdoor patios and clean, comfortable rooms. The retro caravans are the signature: restored 1950s-styled vans, some single and some with annexes, with selected vans open to guests travelling with pets. Powered sites are also available for caravanners travelling with dogs.

Rye Beach is about a 500 metre walk, and the designated off-leash stretch of the Rye foreshore sits between Daly Avenue and Shirlow Avenue, though seasonal restrictions apply across summer with time windows, so check the signage. The Rye Beach Dog Off Leash Area is the obvious dog outing, and the Hapi Cafe & Restaurant in town is a dog-friendly stop for breakfast or lunch.
