Fraser Coast RV Park

Fraser Coast RV Park is a dog-focused caravan park at River Heads, set on 75 acres three minutes from the K'gari (Fraser Island) ferry terminal. It is built for people travelling with dogs: powered and unpowered campsites, cabins and an onsite van all take pets, and there is a dedicated fenced paddock for off-lead time. If you're overnighting either side of a K'gari trip and can't take the dog, this is the practical base.

The centrepiece for dog travellers is Dogs Corner, a fenced paddock set aside for off-lead runs and socialising. Beyond that, the park borders a 40-acre nature reserve with roughly 4km of walking trails, where dogs stay on-lead. The property's owners run a pet minding service, which matters here because dogs aren't permitted on K'gari, so ask about minding rather than leaving a dog unattended at your site all day. Fees and any size limits aren't published, so confirm them when you book.

House rules are straightforward: dogs under control, cleaned up after, and on-lead outside the fenced paddock. Bring your own dog bed and food, as the park doesn't supply either. The vibe

Max: book a site in or near Dogs Corner if your dog wants easy playmates, and pack insect repellent for both of you, as midges come out around dusk here.

This is a quiet, nature-first park rather than a resort. Sites are spaced out around the homestead, birds outnumber vehicles, and the security gate keeps traffic down to pre-paid bookings. Powered sites are limited to nine, so book ahead in the whale season when Hervey Bay fills up. Expect kangaroos on the lawn at dawn and dusk, which some dogs find fascinating and others find provocative, so keep leads handy on evening walks.

Getting there and parking

The park sits on River Heads Road at River Heads, about 10 minutes from Hervey Bay Airport and a short drive from the K'gari barge terminal. Every booking gets one vehicle and one site; if you're unsure which site suits a van plus dog setup, flag it in your booking comments and the owners will adjust it.

While you're out there
