Port Germein Caravan Park

Port Germein Caravan Park is a community-owned park at 39/41 Esplanade in Port Germein, on the beachfront about 25 minutes south of Port Pirie. The reason dog owners pick it is simple: the beach is directly across the road and the historic Port Germein jetty, one of the longest timber jetties in Australia, is a short walk away. Pets are welcome on the powered and unpowered sites, with a maximum of two per site.

Dogs at the park

Pets are accepted at the park manager's discretion, so call ahead before booking. The published pet policy caps sites at two pets, requires dogs to be fully vaccinated, wormed, de-fleaed and registered, and insists on a physical leash and close control at all times in the park. Dogs cannot be left unattended, excessive barking or antisocial behaviour is grounds for refusal, and clean-up is immediate. Dogs are welcome on the grounds but kept out of the amenities blocks, camp kitchen and reception. Cabins are generally not available to pet guests, so book a site if you are travelling with a dog.

Max: two dogs per site is a hard limit here. If you travel with three, you need a different park or a second booking.

The beach and jetty

Port Germein Beach along the Esplanade foreshore is a designated dog exercise area under the District Council of Mount Remarkable. During daylight saving months, October to March, dogs must be leashed between 10am and 8pm and can run off-lead outside those hours, before 10am and after 8pm. Check on-site signage for the non-daylight-saving rules. The jetty itself is on-lead at all times, which is no hardship because the walk out over the water is the point. Waste bags are usually stocked near the Esplanade playground and at the caravan park.

Close by with the dogs

Heading north, Hillsview Cabins and Caravan Park at Port Pirie is the next pet-friendly stop, with Travelway Motel as the motel option in town. South, Melrose Caravan & Tourist Park sits under Mount Remarkable. Note the national park itself is off-limits to dogs, so plan range walks around the towns.
