Melrose Caravan & Tourist Park

Melrose Caravan & Tourist Park sits on Joes Road at the base of Mount Remarkable, a creek-side caravan park that doubles as the trailhead town for the southern Flinders Ranges. Dogs are welcome across the park: on powered and unpowered sites and in a set of designated pet-friendly cabins.

Dogs at the Melrose Caravan & Tourist Park

Any caravan or camping site takes dogs without fuss. For cabins, only the designated dog-friendly options do, and a cleaning surcharge of at least $45 applies, so confirm availability with the office before you book. The pet-friendly cabins and the creek-side sites are the first to go during mountain biking season, so book ahead.

Park rules are straightforward: dogs stay leashed and under control everywhere in the park, and they cannot be left unattended in a cabin, van or tent. Dogs are not allowed in the amenities block, camp kitchen or other communal areas, and washing a dog or its bedding in the park laundry is off limits. Doggy bags are provided around the grounds.

Max: do not get caught out at the boundary sign. Mount Remarkable National Park next door bans dogs entirely, including inside cars within the park boundary. Keep dogs to the town-side paths and plan national park hikes for a dog-sitter day.

Worth knowing

The Melrose township is an easy dog-on-leash walk from the park, with cafes that put outdoor seating on the street. The town's own trail network, including the walking and mountain biking routes around the ridge, is the go with a dog in tow. The park has ensuite cabins sleeping up to five, grassy drive-through sites for vans, and a camp kitchen for the humans.

Getting there and parking

The park is on Joes Road, Melrose, an easy turn off the main street with flat access and drive-through sites for caravans and RVs. Melrose is roughly three hours north of Adelaide along the Augusta Highway via Port Pirie or through Clare.

Close by with the dogs

If the park is booked out, Melrose Mt Remarkable Hotel Motel and Wozza's BnB are both in town, and Port Germein Caravan Park is down the highway towards the coast.
