Frank Green Park

Frank Green Park is Port Pirie's purpose built dog exercise area, a fenced reserve at the corner of Halliday Street and Senate Road run by Port Pirie Regional Council. This is a council designation, not a reported practice: the park is set up for dogs, open around the clock, and laid out so small and large dogs get their own space.

The dog setup

The headline feature is the separated large and small dog areas, so a nervous junior pup is not sharing turf with a couple of boisterous shepherds. Fencing runs the perimeter of both areas, shelter covers the human waiting spots, and water taps are on site so you are not hauling a bowl from the car. Dog play equipment gives the regulars something to work their dogs over, and picnic tables let the humans settle in for the duration. With 24 hour access it works as a late evening run in summer when the bitumen elsewhere is still radiating, and the lighting at the gate end keeps the first and last visits of the day sensible.

The park sits in a residential pocket of Port Pirie, a few minutes' drive from the town centre. Reviews are thin but positive, with the fence and the tables the recurring mentions, which tracks with what the council has built here: a straightforward, functional dog park rather than a destination.
