Gum Tree Caravan Park

Gum Tree Caravan Park is a quiet, well-rated park at 8 Amble Lane off Toolong Road, about four kilometres outside Port Fairy's town centre on the way towards the coast. It has grassy powered sites that are mostly shaded and wind-protected, unpowered sites for tents and camper trailers, and cabins from modern self-contained units to basic options. It is genuinely set up for dogs, with pet-friendly cabins, pet-friendly powered sites and even its own off-leash dog run on site.

The park's pet-friendly cabins and powered sites take dogs, which is a stronger position than most Port Fairy parks, where cabins are usually off limits or off-peak only. The rules are standard but enforced: dogs on leash around the park, never left unattended, not allowed on any furniture inside or outside cabins, and bring their own bedding. Excessive barking or aggressive behaviour is not tolerated, and management reserves the right to refuse entry or limit dog numbers per site. Book the pet-friendly cabin or site type explicitly in advance and confirm the conditions rather than assuming.

The park

The amenities block has a reputation for being exceptionally clean, and there is an undercover camp kitchen, shared barbecues, a laundry, a kiosk for essentials and a dump point. Extras include a kids playground, half-court basketball, a giant chess set, bike and boogie board hire and free Wi-Fi in 24-hour blocks. Reviews are strong, with a pattern of repeat visitors returning year after year.

Getting there and close by

It is a short drive from central Port Fairy, where the Moyne River walk and the heritage streetscapes make an easy leashed stroll, and East Beach is the closest beach for a longer run under the on-lead and off-leash zones signed by Moyne Shire. In town, Borough Chambers and Bottega Toscana are the dog-friendly eat options, Merrijig Kitchen is the region's celebrated dining room nearby, and if you need a second option the Gardens Caravan Park is the town's other park.
