Parkhurst Caravan Park

Parkhurst Caravan Park is a family-owned, no-frills stopover on the Bruce Highway about fifteen minutes north of Rockhampton, and it is one of the few parks in the area with fenced sites built specifically for travellers with dogs.

The pet policy. Dogs are welcome on powered and unpowered sites, and in select cabin units with prior approval. Fenced sites are available, which means a dog can be off leash in that specific enclosed area, otherwise dogs must stay on leash in common areas of the park. Pets are not permitted around the amenities block or the pool. Pet fees vary by site or cabin and are not published, so confirm at booking.

Getting there. The park sits at 12111-12115 Bruce Highway, Parkhurst. Heading north from Rockhampton it is a straightforward turn in; heading south there is no direct right turn into the park, so you will need to do a U-turn to access it.

Nearby with the dogs. Rockhampton is about fifteen minutes south and has several off-leash areas including Ramsay Park, plus walking tracks near the Fitzroy River. North Rockhampton has pet supply stores and cafes with outdoor seating.

When to go. A solid highway stopover for caravanners and campers travelling with dogs, especially useful if you want a secure fenced area rather than leash-only common ground. Book ahead in peak grey-nomad travel months.
