Parkhurst Caravan Park

Parkhurst Caravan Park is a family-owned, no-frills stopover on the Bruce Highway about fifteen minutes north of Rockhampton, and it is one of the few parks in the area with fenced sites built specifically for travellers with dogs. It trades as Parkhurst Motel and Van Park, with powered and unpowered sites plus motel-style units.

Dogs at the park

Dogs are welcome on powered and unpowered sites, and in select cabin units with prior approval. The fenced sites are the reason dog travellers pick this park: inside the enclosed area your dog can be off lead, while everywhere else in the park the leash stays on. Pets are not permitted around the amenities block or the pool, and fees are not published, so confirm the charge for your site or cabin at booking.

Getting there

The park sits on the Bruce Highway through Parkhurst, on the Yaamba Road stretch heading out of Rockhampton. Coming from the north it is a straightforward turn in; heading south from Rockhampton there is no direct right turn into the park, so plan a U-turn. A general store and service station next door cover fuel and takeaway.

Close by with the dogs

Rockhampton is fifteen minutes south. Country Club Caravan Park is just up the same road if the fenced sites are full, and Southside Holiday Village is the pet-friendly option on the other side of town. For a run, Kershaw Gardens has a fenced off-leash enclosure, and the Fitzroy River paths give you a flat on-leash walk. Coffee Society does outdoor tables in town.

Max: ask for one of the fenced sites by name when you book, they are limited and the grey nomads take them first in winter.
