East Bay Camping Ground is a free, nature-based campsite on East Bay Beach near Manypeaks, roughly 45 minutes east of Albany. The draw is simple: white sand beach access straight from your site, in a genuinely rustic setting that the bigger commercial parks cannot match.
Dogs at East Bay Camping Ground
Dogs are permitted under the City of Albany's nature-based camping guidelines, which puts this beachfront site in rare company: the reserve campgrounds through nearby Two Peoples Bay country do not allow dogs at all. The one condition is a leash at all times, along with the usual clean-up and consideration for neighbours and wildlife.
There are only four to five designated bays, packed close together, so manage your dog around other campers. The sites suit tents, camper trailers and small campervans; the access road is tight and caravans and big motorhomes are not practical here.
Max: arrive early in peak periods because the handful of sites fill fast. Once you are set up, the beach is your exercise yard, so bring a long lead for the morning walk along the sand.
The vibe
This is bare-bones beachfront camping: a pit toilet, no power and no water, so bring everything including drinking water for your dog. The bay is sheltered from the prevailing wind, the sunsets over the water are the evening entertainment, and fishers work the beach and nearby rocks. It books itself as a quiet, self-sufficient stay rather than a serviced park.
Getting there
Drive about 45 minutes from Albany towards Manypeaks and follow the signs to the East Bay area. Four-wheel drive is the safest bet for the final track, and check conditions after heavy rain. Space is limited, so have a fallback.

For a serviced base with more facilities, Kalgan River Caravan Park and Chalets sits on the Albany side, and Acclaim Albany Holiday Park is another pet-friendly fallback in town. The Luke Pen Walk makes a good on-lead leg-stretch on the drive through.
