Moorabbee Lodge Caravan Park

Moorabbee Lodge Caravan Park sits on the Lake Eppalock foreshore at 410 Moorabbee Foreshore Road, Knowsley, a smaller and quieter park than the big-name holiday operations on this lake. It is popular with fishers chasing golden perch, Murray cod and redfin, and for dog owners it stands out for a simple reason: the lakefront holiday park at the other end of Eppalock is strictly no dogs, so this is one of the few park options on the water where a dog may be possible at all.

Dogs at the park

Dog approval here is conditional, not automatic, and it matters which part of the park you are booking. Casual site bookings have generally been able to bring dogs with prior approval, but the annual site-holders' community guidelines have at times restricted dogs entirely, with an exception only for certified assistance dogs. What that means in practice: phone management on (03) 5439 1231 before booking, state what kind of site you want, and get the dog ruling for your specific booking in writing. Expect leashing everywhere in the park, immediate clean-up, and possible tighter rules in peak periods. Pet fees are not published, so confirm any charge at the same time.

Max: This is a phone-first park. Rules have shifted between seasons and site types, so a confirmed yes from management the week you book beats an old review's yes from last year.

The park and its setting

The park runs largely on annual and long-term sites, which gives it a settled, community feel, with occasional private vans and cabins listed for holidays. The setting is genuinely bushy and sits right on the water. There is no dedicated dog infrastructure listed, so bring water bowls, a long tie-out and your own poop bags. Foreshore walking on the leash does the daily exercise job; Goulburn-Murray Water rules around the lake require dogs on leash and under control at all times.

Getting there

Access is via Moorabbee Foreshore Road off the B280 from Knowsley or Toolleen, and Bendigo is roughly half an hour to the west. It is a low-key base for boating and kayak work rather than a resort stop, and the nearest proper town services are in Heathcote or Axedale.

For a meal stop, Axedale Tavern sits on the route towards the Campaspe, and if Moorabbee cannot take your dog, River Gardens Axedale is an explicitly pet friendly farm stay alternative about twenty minutes away. A leg-stretch stop on the drive home works at Heathcote Dog Park.
