Coronation Beach Campground

Coronation Beach Campground sits right on the sand about 35 kilometres north of Geraldton, a basic, windswept beachside camp that draws kitesurfers, windsurfers and anglers as much as dog owners. Dogs are welcome throughout on a lead, and you can pitch a tent or park a van a short walk from the water.

The dog setup

Dogs must stay on lead at all times within the campground, and the beach at your doorstep is where the walk happens. There is no booking system: sites are first come, first served, and a sign goes up on the highway when the place fills.

Max: arrive by mid afternoon in peak season. The site fills through the day with kitesurfers chasing the sea breeze, and once the full sign goes up on the highway there is no queue system to wait in.

Before you book

There is nothing to book, but there is also nothing supplied: a small nightly fee per vehicle, roughly $15 to $20, is paid on arrival, and facilities run to toilets and solar showers, nothing more. Bring your own drinking water and everything your dog needs, and do not rely on the taps here.

Worth knowing

This is rustic camping, not a resort, and the site is genuinely remote. Shade is limited in places, so pack a shelter or park where the scrub gives some cover. The trade-off is a beach camp where the dog can be part of everything, and the wind that makes it a kitesurfing spot keeps summer nights bearable.

Getting there

Turn off the North West Coastal Highway onto Coronation Beach Road and follow it to the coast. There is room for cars, caravans and RVs to park close to the beach, and the track in is straightforward for most setups.
