Coronation Beach Campground

Coronation Beach Campground sits right on the sand about 35 kilometres north of Geraldton, a basic, windswept beachside camp that draws kitesurfers, windsurfers and anglers as much as dog owners. Dogs are welcome throughout, on a lead, and you can pitch your tent or van a short walk from the water.

The rules. Dogs must stay on a lead at all times within the campground. There is no bookings system here, sites are first come, first served, and a sign goes up on the highway if the place fills. Expect a small nightly fee per vehicle, roughly $15 to $20, paid on arrival.

The place. This is rustic camping, not a resort. Facilities run to toilets and solar showers, nothing more, and the site is genuinely remote. Bring your own drinking water and any supplies your dog needs, don't rely on taps here. Shade is limited in places, so pack a shelter or park where the scrub gives some cover.

Getting there. Turn off the North West Coastal Highway onto Coronation Beach Road. There's room for cars, caravans and RVs to park close to the beach, and the track in is straightforward.

Nearby with the dogs. Long on-lead walks along Coronation Beach itself are the main drawcard. For cafes, vet access or a proper supermarket run, Geraldton is about 30 to 35 minutes south and has several dog-friendly options.

When to go. Cooler months suit this exposed stretch of coast best, the wind that makes it famous for kitesurfing can be relentless in summer. Arrive early on weekends and holiday periods since there's no way to book ahead, and confirm current fees and facilities directly with the campground before you head out.
