South Coast Retreat

South Coast Retreat is a waterfront spread of cabins and glamping safari tents at 121 Greenwell Point Road, Greenwell Point, on the Crookhaven River near Jervis Bay. Nine cabins, six safari tents and a house sit across an acre of landscaped grounds, and the pet terms are unusually generous: up to two dogs per cabin, tent or house, with dogs welcome inside the accommodation.

Dogs at the retreat

Up to two well-behaved dogs of any size are allowed per cabin, safari tent or the house, with no explicit pet fee listed, though confirm the terms for the unit you book when reserving. The house rules are clear: dogs are allowed inside but not in the bedrooms or on the furniture, they must not be fed or watered inside, they cannot be left unattended at any time, and restricted, dangerous or nuisance dogs are not accepted. Clean up after your dog around the grounds.

Max: two dogs inside the cabin, no pet fee and a riverfront deck is a combination worth booking early. The no-bedroom rule is the one to brief everyone on before check-in.

Worth knowing

Every cabin and tent has its own deck with an electric BBQ, plus air conditioning and free Wi-Fi, and the tents bring rain showers, comfortable beds and fire pit evenings. The setting on the water makes the morning and evening walks automatic, with the village and its boat ramps and fish co-op close by. Peak summer weekends book out quickly, so shoulder-season dates are easier to land with two dogs in tow.

Getting there and parking

Greenwell Point is about 15 minutes southeast of Nowra on the South Coast, roughly 2.5 hours from Sydney and 20 minutes from the Huskisson side of Jervis Bay. Parking is at your cabin, with the grounds compact enough to leave the car parked for the whole stay.

Close by with the dogs

The Greenwell Point Fenced Dog Park covers off-lead time minutes away, and Benny's Cafe at Culburra Beach and Portside Cafe at Huskisson both work for a dog-friendly breakfast run. If the retreat is booked out, Tasman Holiday Parks - Jervis Bay at Woollamia is the nearest alternative.
