Erica Escape

Erica Escape is a self-contained holiday house in Erica, a small Gippsland high country town on the edge of the state forest, about half an hour from the historic gold town of Walhalla. One small dog is welcome inside the house on request, which makes it an easy base for a Walhalla weekend without boarding the dog.

The pet policy comes from the owner's listing: dogs up to around 10 kilograms are accepted on request, generally one pet per stay, and there is no extra pet fee listed. Pets stay inside the house with you. Approval is required before booking, so message the host with your dog's details when you request dates, and reconfirm the weight limit at that time in case house rules have changed.

The house and the vibe

Guests describe a cosy, spacious house with comfy beds, a fireplace and a coffee machine, with views that make the town-name promise hold up: it feels like a proper escape from the city. It suits a couple or small family with one settled small dog far better than a big boisterous crew, and the fireplace season is the reason to come in winter.

Out and about

Erica sits in the Walhalla gold country, and the area is unusually good for dogs. The Walhalla Goldfields Rail Trail follows the historic tramway formation out of town, and in Walhalla itself, leashed dogs are welcome to ride the heritage railway's carriages and can join the underground mine tour if they cope with enclosed spaces. State forest tracks branch off from Erica for quiet bush walks; keep the lead on for wildlife and snakes in the warm months, and pack water because forest creeks are not reliable. Mobile reception in the Walhalla valley is patchy, so download maps before you go.
