Westview Caravan Park

Westview Caravan Park sits on Narromine Road on the western edge of Dubbo, a quiet ten-acre park with plenty of grass and trees, and it takes dogs on sites with prior approval from management. For travellers rolling in along the Mitchell Highway with a dog on the seat, it is a roomier and quieter alternative to the parks closer to town.

Dogs at the park

The first rule is procedural: you must get the manager's approval before bringing a pet, so call ahead rather than turning up and hoping. Dogs are welcome on the spacious camping and caravan sites, and some cabins take pets, including options with fenced decks, but pets are not allowed inside every cabin and are barred outright from the amenities block, laundry and camp kitchen. Confirm which cabin you are getting when you book, and ask about any pet fee at the same time since none is advertised.

Once you are in, the rules are firm: dogs stay on a leash at all times within the park grounds, you clean up immediately, and pets must not be left at the park unattended. That last one matters here, because the park is a base for the zoo and other dog-free attractions and you will need to plan around it. The upside is space: ten acres of grass and trees give you somewhere to walk the dog without leaving the property.

Getting there and parking

The address is 13R Narromine Road, three to five minutes west of the Dubbo town centre and close to the Taronga Western Plains Zoo turnoff. Large grassy drive-through and reverse-in sites suit big rigs, check-in opens from 2pm, and 24-hour arrival can be arranged, which helps on a long westward run.

Close by with the dogs

The fenced runs at South Dubbo Park on Palmer Street are a short drive for a proper off-leash stretch, and the Tracker Riley Cycleway along the Macquarie River is a good on-leash loop past footbridges and river parkland. Back near the park, 271 Coffee on Darling Street is friendly to dogs at the outdoor tables. If you want a second option in town, Dubbo Midstate Caravan Park is closer to the centre.
