Fig Tree Retro Studio

Fig Tree Retro Studio at 26 Spring Valley Road, Cudgera Creek is a converted horse stable turned self-contained studio on a quiet rural property in the Tweed Coast hinterland. The 1950s theme is the hook for people, but for dogs it is the completeness of the setup: a gated yard, a proper dog wash station and a welcome kit that covers most of what you would have packed.

One pet is permitted per stay, and the studio's compact footprint means the setup suits small to medium dogs. Pets are allowed inside the studio but stay off the furniture and beds, and the $30 pet fee is handled separately by the owner, so confirm the payment process when you book. What you get is unusually complete: a gated and enclosed yard directly in front of the studio, a dog wash station stocked with shampoo and towels, a trampoline bed and a plush bed, food bowls, a toy chest and welcome treats. After a sandy session at the beach, the wash station earns its place.

The vibe

The studio is open-plan, built from zinc and recycled timber with a kitchenette, reverse-cycle air conditioning and a large deck. The retro styling is real rather than themed wallpaper: a 1950s Kelvinator fridge, hammock, banana lounges and a BBQ area. Rainwater tanks and eco-minded construction keep it rustic. Guests consistently rate it in the high 4s, praising the day bed and friendly hosts, and it suits couples with a well-mannered dog who want stillness rather than resort facilities.

Getting there and parking

Spring Valley Road runs off Cudgera Creek Road in the hinterland between Pottsville and Cabarita Beach, about 10 minutes' drive from Pottsville and its beach. Parking is at the door on the private property. The Tweed Coast beaches, including the dog beach at Pottsville, are a short drive over the ridge.
